Work continues as the state budget deadline looms at the end of this week.
The Pennsylvania budget for 2022-2023 is due to be passed by Thursday, June 30th. Back in February, Governor Wolf submitted his draft budget with a $43.7 billion proposal, which includes a $1.8 billion increase in education spending, including more for instruction, operations and special education in public schools. Other proposals that are a part of the budget is to send Pennsylvania residents $2000 checks to households earning under $80,000 a year and a $200 million scholarship program to bolster the state system of higher education.
Another issue of contention is the reduction of the corporate net income tax rate. Currently, Pennsylvania has a 9.99 percent corporate net income tax rate, which is the second-highest in the nation, and has been named a deterrent to attracting and retaining companies.
