Indiana School Board met last night and the public was showing their support for keeping things the same as far as two programs are concerned.
During the public comment section of the meeting, several people ranging from parents to IUP representatives to students talked about a recent letter sent home to students concerning the band and foreign language programs in the Junior High. A letter had gone home to parents saying that eighth grade English classes would go to double-periods to help improve the student’s language skills, but that meant students would have to give up either band class or a foreign language class. Ken Sherwood, a concerned parent, said that a student shouldn’t be forced to make that choice.

No decision had been made by the board concerning that issue, and Superintendent Michael Vukovich said that he jumped the gun on sending that notification letter out.

The board has invited people to attend the board’s academic committee meeting. Their next meeting is March 4th at 6:00 PM.
In other business, the board approved the ARIN General Operating Budget and their share that they have to pay, which is $155,582. That represents no increase over the district’s share for the last school year.
