Quick action by some passersby helped keep an equipment fire from spreading further at a farm along Route 119 this morning.
The Marion Center fire department was called out along with Indiana, Clymer, Plumville and Creekside fire departments were called out at 9:50 this morning for a reported structure fire on Route 119 in Home. Galen Moore, officer in charge for Marion Center Fire Department said that some passersby reported the fire, which started on a skid steer at a farm. PennDOT was also nearby and started to fight the fire themselves using fire extinguishers. Rayne Township employees also assisted the property owner in pulling the skid steer out of the barn with a tractor. Because of these quick actions, Moore said that the property was saved from complete destruction. As it stands, the only property lost was the skid steer.
No word yet on the cause of the fire. There were no reported injuries to people or animals, and no damage to any of the buildings on the farm.
