Because of a clerical mistake, Satlsburg elementary students are drinking bottled water for the rest of this week, even though the water is safe.
At last night’s Blairsville-Saltsburg School Board meeting, Acting Superintendent Jeffrey Soles announced that water at district facilities was recently tested for lead, and there was a mix-up in the results. Soles said that the initial results given said that Saltsburg Elementary had high levels of lead, but that turned out not to be the case. The real results were that lead levels in the Saltsburg Elementary school were at acceptable levels, but lead was found in water at the Blairsville field house, and that was due to water being stagnant at the field house for at least three months due to lack of use.
Water testing will continue, and even though the water at Saltsburg Elementary is safe to dringk, students will continue to utilize bottled water as a precaution.
