The 6th Annual Veterans Sleepout over the weekend at the Indiana Walmart store managed to collect $2,246 and five bins of cleaning supplies, paper goods, and other items to benefit veterans in need.
From 8 AM Saturday through 8 AM Sunday, a team of vets camped out between the two Walmart entrances, sleeping in cardboard boxes and eating only what was supplied by donors.
The annual event to call attention to the plight of homeless veterans was sponsored by Team Red, White, & Blue, the IUP ROTC and PTX Military Fraternity, and the Military Philanthropy Organization at IUP. The proceeds help support the Veterans Parsonage on the grounds of the Church of the Brethren in Indiana. Leftover food donations were taken to the Pathways homeless shelter.
