HERE IS MARIA JACK’S CAMPAIGN ANNOUNCEMENT:
Indiana County Auditor Maria Lawer Jack has announced her candidacy for the Republican nomination for the office of County Commissioner.
Jack, a lifelong resident of Indiana County, currently serves as a County Auditor, where she helps oversee the books for over 30 departments and is tasked with keeping the spending in line with their budgets. She acts as a watchdog at the local level by protecting the taxpayer’s money. Jack regularly works with Indiana County’s numerous department heads and financial managers to ensure an accurate accounting of taxpayer’s money. Her tourism skills helped showcase and bring tax dollars to area businesses this past fall when her office hosted the 56th Annual Pennsylvania State Association of County Auditors convention in Indiana County. During the five-day event, in addition to her hosting duties, Jack completed multiple education classes in auditing and received a first-ever accreditation by the Commonwealth of PA.
Her previous position with the Indiana County Tourist Bureau was initially as a financial associate progressing to the Sales/Public Relations Specialist. Promoting the county at the local, state and national levels required travel and full knowledge of the county in every aspect to showcase our assets to travel buyers, authors, and industry leaders. She helped create marketing material for print and digital publications used to promote Indiana regionally and locally and successfully bring room tax dollars and job opportunities to the area.
“I am asking for your vote to be one of our next County Commissioners in order to ensure that our values of small government and wise use of the taxpayer’s money continue to be at the forefront of the decision-making process for Indiana County,” Jack stated.
Jack has a long history of service in Indiana County, with over 35 years of active involvement with numerous civic and charitable organizations. She has held key positions with a number of vital human service agencies, including her 25-year involvement with the Alice Paul House as a Past President and current Member Emeritus, the Indiana Regional Medical Center Auxiliary President, and the Indiana Healthcare Corporate Board. She is a member of the Armstrong-
Indiana-Clarion Drug & Alcohol Commission Board, where she has applied her personal family experience towards tackling the challenges of addiction. She was a speaker on Ecotourism at the initial Indiana County Sustainable Economic Summit, and contributed to local committees addressing issues with Indiana County’s Stormwater Management, broadband services and Ecotour Education.
Jack is running to keep Indiana County a great place to work and live, while also improving its position in the region. Jack is passionate about workforce development, as she understands that employers will only do business in Indiana County if the County has people ready to work. While she worked as a human resource manager for Lifesteps, Jack helped local students, single mothers, and unemployed with career exploration, mock interviews and job-training classes. She seeks to ensure that newcomer Urban Outfitters and existing employers will have a continuous supply of qualified personnel. Jack is also running in order to set and maintain budget guidelines in county government that honor small government and prevent the waste of taxpayer’s money. She is also seeking to support the County’s agriculture and rural communities, as they are key to the County’s economic success.
A graduate of Indiana High School and IUP, Jack earned a Bachelor’s degree while raising two children as a single mom. Growing up as the third oldest of ten children working for a family business started by her father, Jack knows the everyday struggles families face, and she has the passion to look for solutions.
“I have been fortunate to work in a variety of jobs that have shaped me into the person this county needs to represent them. I would be honored to put my experience to work on behalf of the people in this county. I will work tirelessly as their voice and public servant.”
