During Tuesday night’s Indiana Borough Council Work Session, the council received advice from the Community Development Committee to not move forward with any ordinance concerning marijuana decriminalization until further research is done.
The borough had been discussing the issue for the past few months. The issue at hand would be a reduction in the penalty for possessing a small amount of marijuana. Jonathan Warnock talked about the reason why they decided to recommend not moving forward.
Two motions were made before the council. One concerned the empty flagpole outside the borough building that originally held the police memorial flag, but that flag has since come down as it was tattered and worn. Joshua Krasta sought permission to put the gay pride flag on the flagpole for the rest of June. The vote went 7-3, with Tamara Collazzo, Casey Newell and Luke DeBuyser voting against it. Collazzo said that she felt it would open up precedent for the borough.
The other motion, which was approved, was to allow the closure of Gompers Avenue between 8th and 7th Streets for the upcoming Artists Hand 10th Anniversary Celebration on July 9th.
