We don’t hear as much about the flu this year as we have in years past, but the nineteenth official state weekly report of flu season shows the illness is still on the rise across Pennsylvania.
There were about 5,000 lab-confirmed new cases of flu last week, which compares very favorably with the 14,000 reported in the same week last year. Week nineteen was the peak week of last year’s flu season. Six flu-related deaths were reported last week, bringing the number to 37 for the season. Twenty-four deaths were people aged 65 and over.
There have been 30,592 lab-confirmed flu cases this season. Indiana County has had exactly 200 cases, 194 of them Type A and six of them Type B.
