Officials had hoped the Oakland Avenue widening project would get underway this year, but while that won’t happen, the work will move forward, and a public plans display has now been scheduled.
On Thursday, March 7th from 5:30 to 7 PM, PennDOT says folks can get a look at the plans for what is officially titled the “State Route 286, Section 49A, SR 286 US 422 East Widening Project” in White Township. The open house meeting will be held at PennDOT’s District Ten headquarters, which is right in the heart of the Oakland Avenue corridor that will be widened.
The road will be widened to five lanes from the Walmart plaza to the Rustic Lodge in its initial phase. As of last summer, PennDOT was estimating the cost for the work as $14.36 million, which will include intersection improvements and new traffic signals. Bids for the project should go out later this year and the work should get underway next year.
A second phase in the future would widen the busy Oakland Avenue corridor further, from Rustic Lodge Road to 13th Street.
