State police took a fugitive Saltsburg man into custody Monday after tracking him down in White Township when he fled a traffic stop.
42-year-old Keith William Habel was charged with felony criminal trespass and misdemeanor DUI, resisting arrest, flight to avoid apprehension, and disorderly conduct, along with five summary traffic violations.
Habel was pulled over along Campbell Lane Monday afternoon after a state trooper saw his pickup truck in the area of Airport Road and Geesey Road, towing a utility trailer which had debris falling off of it onto the road. The trooper ran the license plate on the trailer and learned that it had expired in October of 2019. As the trooper talked with a passenger, Habel bolted from the truck and fled on foot. Other troopers were summoned, along with the Homer City Police K9 unit, and Habel was found hiding inside a nearby barn. Police say he also showed signs of impairment so he was taken to IRMC for a blood draw before being placed in the Indiana County Jail.
Habel was arraigned before District Judge Guy Haberl and ordered held on $5,000 bond. He also had outstanding warrants from both Indiana and Armstrong counties. He’s scheduled for a preliminary hearing on July 6th.
