The Board of Governors of the State System of Higher Education will meet today with a brief agenda that includes revisions to two System policies and the appointment of a student member to the board.
The governors will consider revisions to the Academic Calendar, providing individual universities with more flexibility, but also changing language in the current policy, removing two sections and placing them under the chancellor’s control rather than the board’s.
The other revision has to do with the funding formula for the State System schools, reflecting the work of the Allocation Formula Team, which was formed last year. The funding formula has long been a sore spot for lawmakers in Harrisburg who contend that revenues generated by the System’s better-performing schools are propping up the poorly-performing ones.
The final action on the Board of Governors agenda is the appointment of a student member. The candidate under consideration is Abigail Hancox, a student in the Robert E. Cook Honors College at IUP who is from Albion, in Erie County. She was nominated by IUP President Michael Driscoll.
