State police say another phone scam has cropped up, and this one hits close to home for them; the caller claims to represent a state police charity that benefits widows of slain police officers.
The scam came to light when it was reported yesterday by person who had been contacted several times by someone soliciting donations. Spokesman Trooper Clifford Greenfield says a similar call was received by an area resident late last year.
Greenfield says state police do not solicit charitable donations and he recommends that if you get such a call, verify the legitimacy of any solicitor before providing any personal, bank, or credit card information.
