Georgia G. Scerbo, 86, of Melbourne, Fla., formerly of Indiana and Latrobe, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2019, at Health First’s Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne.
Born April 1, 1932 to the late George and Anna Paskovitch Gianakis, she was raised in New Kensington and spent many of her summers on the Paskovitch farm in Derry.
A graduate of Slippery Rock State Teachers College, she began her career as a Health and Physical Education instructor in the Purchase Line School District and eventually retired after 35 years of teaching from Indiana Area School District.
Georgia was a member of St. Bernard of Clairvaux Catholic Church in Indiana, and belonged to the Catholic Daughters of America Court 339. She was also a member of Ascension Catholic Church in Melbourne, Fla. An avid golfer, Georgia was a member of the Indiana Country Club for many years, playing competitively in club events as well as on a traveling team. She continued her love of golf in Florida at the Melbourne City Municipal Golf Courses. Georgia also enjoyed her twice weekly bridge games and enrolled in classes to improve her bridge skills. She was a volunteer at the Maxwell C. King Center for the Performing Arts in Melbourne.
Georgia is survived by her children: Theresa (Edward) Rusbosin, of Latrobe; Albert Jr. (Denise), of Yardley; Suzanne (Craig) Chreene, of Richardson, Tex.; and Mark (Christie), of Powder Springs, Ga.; five grandchildren: Albert L. Scerbo III, Mark David Scerbo, Mason Chreene, Noah Scerbo and Gracie Scerbo; two aunts: Kathryn Paskovitch, of Denver, Colo.; and Odette Paskovitch, of Derry; several Paskovitch cousins; sisters-in-law, Yolanda DiRosa, of Rochester, NY; and Elveda Guerresso, of Dearborn, Mich.; many nieces and nephews; two special girlfriends in Melbourne, Pat Weber and Yvonne Montonari, who watched out for her and gave her children peace of mind; and all of the staff and her friends at Brookdale Eau Gallie Senior Living, especially Jackie, John and Bob, her dining companions.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Scerbo, Sr., who passed away Jan. 22, 1999.
Receiving of friends will be held from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Robinson-Lytle, Inc., Indiana. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Bernard of Clairvaux Catholic Church, with her nephew, The Rev. Monsignor James T. Gaston officiating. Interment will be in St. Bernard Cemetery.
Georgia received a transplanted kidney in 2003 at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, Pa.
