Some losses sting a little more than others, and for the Pirates, their seventh straight defeat was especially hard.

Although two inherited runners scored, Mitch Keller left the game without allowing a run. He worked the inside half of the plate with his two-seam fastball to set up his slider on the outer half.
The Bucs will play a day/night doubleheader today. JT Brubaker (0-6, 4.60 ERA) faces Matthew Liberatore (1-1, 5.54 ERA) in the first game and Bryse Wilson (0-3, 7.53 ERA) will return from Indianapolis to make a spot start in the second game against Miles Mikolas (4-4, 2.93 ERA). Wilson is 0-0 with a 3.32 ERA in three starts with Indy since being sent down on May 23rd.
The airtime for the first game is 12:50 on WCCS. The second game will air 7:20. The St. Louis forecast calls for 100 degree temperatures again today. Gametime temperature today is expected to be 97 degrees for the first game and 99 for the second game.
The Pirates shuffled the roster again yesterday prior to the game, sending outfielder Travis Swaggerty and pitcher Aaron Fletcher to Indy and recalling outfielder Canaan Smith-Njigba and infielder Hoy Park. Reliever Duane Underwood Jr. was placed on the covid injured list and catcher Jason Delay was added to the roster from the taxi squad.

The Atlanta Braves are going to be without All-Star second baseman Ozzie Albies for a good chunk of the summer after he fractured his left foot breaking out of the batter’s box on a grounder in the fifth inning last night against Washington. Atlanta won their 13th straight game, 9-5 after a rain delay.
ALTOONA CURVE
The Altoona Curve open a six-game homestand today against Erie. Mike Burrows gets the start for the Curve. He’s been their best pitcher this season, with a 4-1 record and a 2.13 ERA. He’s struck out 66 batters and walked only 19 in 50 and two-thirds innings. In eleven starts he’s allowed no runs in six of them and he’s coming off a five-inning one-hit shutout performance over Reading in which he gave up no walks and struck out nine.
