There’s a big high school playoff game tonight at First Commonwealth Bank Field in Homer City. It’s a Triple-A semifinal game between undefeated Central (Martinsburg), which is 25-0, and Punxsutawney, which comes into the game at 17-5. Gametime is 7 o’clock.
Central features a young man whose name you will very likely hear called next month in the Major League Baseball Draft. Center fielder Paxton Kling is committed to playing college baseball at LSU. He is ranked in the top 100 baseball prospects in this year’s draft and as a 19-year-old, would be eligible for the draft again in two years if he decides to go to college. If he does, he is rated as a potential top ten pick.
In 25 games this season, Central has imposed the Mercy Rule on 19 opponents.
