Indiana County Commissioner Sherene Hess has announced her candidacy for re-election to a second term in office. She is the first declared candidate for commissioner.
Hess says County Commissioner is an important job that requires dedication. “I think I have proven to the people of Indiana County that I am committed to these folks in Indiana County. Government, especially at the local level, is very serious work. The decisions we make affect people’s lives every day, and people are counting on me and all of their leaders to make decisions with integrity, and fairness, and with the needs of all of the county’s citizens in mind.”
A Democrat, Hess was first elected in 2015, finishing behind Republicans Mike Baker and Rod Ruddock, but beating out Democrat Tammie Shetler and Independent candidates Bob Colgan and Tony Moretti for the seat vacated by the retirement of Patty Evanko.
Hess says County Commissioner is an important job that requires dedication.
“Every year it becomes increasingly difficult to balance our budget and the coming years will bring additional financial challenges. I will ensure every penny is spent wisely to keep the county providing necessary services to its residents,” she said.
She says her first term of office has been rewarding.
Hess says Indiana County has a dedicated group of hard-working public servants.
She says she’s tackled a number of issues in her first term, and much remains to be done.
Hess says it takes a cooperative team effort to make the county run efficiently.
Mike Baker was appointed to the commissioners board after the retirement of David Frick and won his first full term in office in the 2015 election. Rod Ruddock is serving his fourth term in office. Neither Baker nor Ruddock have disclosed their plans.
