Indiana County Commissioners met today (Wednesday morning) and approved receiving some funds to help upgrade the 9-1-1 phone systems.
The funds come from a share of the 9-1-1 phone fees from across the state, and Tom Stutzman from Indiana County’s Emergency Management Agency said that the money will help not just Indiana County, but a large region of the state.

Stutzman also added that as part of the upgrade will be the technology to accept emergency text messages from cell phone users. Stutzman says that may be in place by the end of the year, pending on the progress of Allegheny County’s move to their new 9-1-1 facility.
In other business, the County Commissioners announced that county government has a new web address. It is www.indianacountypa.gov. The website was put together by 50 Marketing, a local website developer. The new website is live now, and the old website will still be in operation until the end of the month.
