John Henry Wilson Jr., 77 of Home passed away peacefully Saturday, January 19, 2019. He was born September 6, 1941 in Vandergrift, the son of the late John Henry Wilson Sr. and Edna (Lukehart)Wilson.
John Graduated from Vandergrift High School in 1959. Standing 6’3″ he was recruited heavily by football programs across the country and attended Purdue IJniversity where he started on both sides of the ball. He graduated in 1963 with a bachelor’s degree in education. He retired in 2001 from Jeannette City School District where he taught physical education and science. During his time at Jeanette, he also coached both baseball & football. John shared his love of the outdoors with his students and provided many with the opportunity to experience hunting, fishing and trapping for the first time. Upon retirement he spent much of his time enjoying those same activities. He raised beagles and coonhounds for hunting purposes and enjoyed training them to excel at what they were bred for. During his retirement he traveled to a number of coon hunter’s festivals and trapping conventions annually. John was a member of Harmony Grove Lutheran Church in Willet.
John is survived by his wife of 46 years, Mary Beth (Cincala) Wilson; Children: Wendy (Rob) Varner of Indiana, PA., Timothy (Liz) Wilson of Newark, DE., Lori & Domonic DeLuca of Derry, PA., Zeke Wilson & Courtney Simpson of Home, PA., and Aaron Wilson of Denver, Co.; 10 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; brothers: Timothy Wilson of Indiana, PA and Norman & Cathy Wilson of Mount Union, PA and sister Pam Wilson of Ashville, NC.
A memorial service to be held at Harmony Grove Church will be announced at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to either the PA Trappers Association or Harmony Grove Lutheran Church. Arrangements are with the assistance of the Rairigh Funeral Home, Ltd. in Hillsdale, PA.
