Pennsylvania State Police have announced that troopers were called out to East Pike Elementary School on Thursday as a student was found with a pocketknife.
According to a news release, a state trooper was conducting a security check when at 8:55 AM, a parent approached the officer and said that a pocketknife was missing from her home. She did not feel that whomever stole it had any bad intentions with it, but made a proactive decision to notify the school administration and police that her child may be in possession of the knife.
When police reported the incident to administrators, the East Pike Principal reported that he already found the knife in the child’s backpack, and at least one other classmate saw the student with the knife. They confirmed there were no ill intentions to use the knife and because of the age of the suspect, charges will not be filed.
State police encourage everyone to continue to use the Safe 2 Say Something system to anonymously report any suspicious behavior, or report the incident to school officials or law enforcement.
This comes days after a security check was done at Indiana Junior High after a student posted themselves holding a stolen handgun on social media.
