The Steelers finished up their week with the last day of Organized Team Activities, and the talk of the locker room afterward remained the retirement of defensive end Stephon Tuitt. Cam Heyward and Tyson Alualu discussed Tuitt’s decision, as did fellow defensive linemen Chris Wormley and Isaiahh Loudermilk.
Wormley was Tuitt’s main replacement last season and says he is ready to step into the role again this year.
After being drafted in the fifth round prior to last season, Loudermilk saw increasing snaps as his rookie year progressed, and says he has been working hard this offseason to step into whatever role he’s asked to play.
At yesterday’s OTA, the Steelers welcomed back a number of former players, which is a long tradition for coach Mike Tomlin that had been interrupted the last two years because of covid. Among those in attendance were 1970s legends Mel Blount, Larry Brown, Jon Kolb, and JT Thomas; 1980s stars Louis Lipps, Bryan Hinkle, and Edmund Nelson; and former linebacker Ryan Shazier, who was in the same draft class as Stephon Tuitt and said he was sad to see Tuitt step away.
Mandatory minicamp opens on Tuesday for the Steelers. The team has officially announced the re-signing of linebacker Tuzar Skipper.
NFL
“FitzMagic” called it a career yesterday. Veteran quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick announced he is retiring after 17 NFL seasons in which he started for nine different teams, which is an NFL record.
