The state yesterday announced $8.7 million in targeted grants to expand computer science classes and teacher training in 765 schools across Pennsylvania. The funds are part of the Education Department’s PASmart Initiative, which has committed $20 million to further computer science and STEM education.
Grants will be distributed to include 221 school districts, two career and technical centers, 18 charter and cyber charter schools, and eight intermediate units.
In Indiana County, grants will go to both the elementary and high schools at Saltsburg, Homer Center, Marion Center, Penns Manor, Purchase Line, and United schools districts, ARIN Intermediate Unit for distribution to Homer Center and Penns Manor elementary schools, and the Indiana Junior High and Senior High schools.
Schools in neighboring counties on the grant recipient list include the Apollo Ridge and Ligonier Valley elementary and high schools, Armstrong’s Lenape and Shannock elementary schools, and one of the Punxsutawney elementary schools.
Each grant is worth $35,000.
