The Pirates yesterday completed a shocking series sweep of the first-place Dodgers in Los Angeles, wrapping up a great six-game swing on the West Coast.
Joe Block has the recap.
Infielder Josh VanMeter left last night’s game in the sixth inning with left hand discomfort. He is listed as day-to-day.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts says the Pirates simply outplayed his team three straight nights.
The Bucs are off today and return home to open a three-game series with Arizona tomorrow night at PNC Park.
Director of Sports Medicine Todd Tomczyk said yesterday that four of the Pirates top prospects are battling injuries in the minors. Shortstop Oneil Cruz has a “very mild ankle sprain” and is out for the moment at Indianapolis. Altoona second baseman Nick Gonzalez is day-to-day with heel pain. Curve catcher Henry Davis is recovering from a non-displaced fracture of his left wrist and has resumed all baseball activities. He could be headed for Bradenton to continue his rehab. And pitcher Quinn Priester, who has not thrown in a game yet this season, tossed a live bullpen session and is making “really nice strides”, according to Tomczyk.
Priester, Gonzalez, and Davis are the Pirates three most recent number one draft choices, in 2019, ’20, and ’21.
ALTOONA CURVE
Altoona lost its fourth straight game last night, falling 5-3 to Bowie. Liover Peguero, Brendt Citta, and Jared Triolo all had two hits for the Curve. Mike Burrows gave up three runs in three innings to suffer his first loss of the season.
Curve lefty Omar Cruz starts game three of the series tonight in Altoona.
