Bowie jumped on Carmen Mlodzinski for five runs in four innings last night and the Curve’s comeback fell one run short in a 5-4 loss in Altoona. Altoona’s Aaron Shackelford and Matt Fraizer were both 3-for-4 with a double. Jared Triolo and Brendt Citta were both 2-for-4. Second baseman Nick Gonzalez left the game with a reported leg injury.
Game two of the series is tonight with the Curve throwing right-hander Mike Burrows, who yesterday was named the Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for his seven-inning scoreless start last week against Harrisburg. Burrows is 3-0 and leads the Eastern League with a 1.90 ERA and the lowest batting average against (.160).
Burrows was the Pirates’ 11th round draft choice in 2018. In his fourth season, he has made 36 starts in 37 appearances and is 7-5 with a 2.53 combined ERA
