Earlier today, the Indiana Area School District, along with the Indiana Area Education Association (IAEA), released details regarding the new five-year collective bargaining agreement that was voted on last Monday.
According to a news release, the agreement goes into effect July 1 and will cover the district’s 218 teachers. The average salary increase is set for 2.3 percent, or $457,000 in additional salaries, and it includes modifications to the salary schedule which the district says “will create significant savings over the next decade.”
The agreement will also save taxpayers more than $200,000 as changes in the contract resulted in nearly a 25 percent reduction in costs. Some of those changes include additional salary steps for most new hires, as well as significant changes to the contractual language regarding computer-mediated instruction. In addition, salary steps from Instructional I to Instructional II certification have the potential of saving the district upwards of $80,000 over the course of each newly-hired teacher’s career.
Both sides showed general satisfaction with the new contract and the Association, as well as the District, believe that it will benefit faculty members, students and families within the district.
