The Pirates blew a big lead last night against the team with the best record in the National League. But the Bucs managed a win anyway.
Joe Block has the story.
The Pirates have not named a starter for the second game of the series tonight. The Dodgers will send another ace, Julio Urias (3-4, 2.49 ERA) to the mound. The airtime is 9:45, with the first pitch at 10:10 on WCCS.
The Pirates made a big roster move yesterday, designating for assignment former number one draft choice Cole Tucker. That removes him from the 40-man roster in order to make room for newly-acquired first baseman Yu Chang, who arrives from Cleveland in a cash deal. In parts of four seasons with Pittsburgh, Tucker has hit a combined .211 with 18 doubles, six triples, five home runs, and 35 RBIs. This season, he hit .175 with the Pirates, with a double and a triple, two RBIs, and 25 strikeouts and no walks in 63 at-bats. He was sent to Indianapolis on May 12th.
Since Tucker was already off the 26-man Pirates active roster, the team still needed to make a roster move to make room for Chang, so they sent Hoy Park to Indy.
ALTOONA CURVE
The Altoona Curve return home to PNG Field to open a six-game series tonight against Bowie. Carmen Mlodzinski will get the start for Altoona.
