The Pirates battled to the end yesterday but couldn’t take the series finale against the Padres.
Joe Block has the story.
The Bucs move on to play the first-place Dodgers in Los Angeles tonight. They beat the Dodgers in two out of three games played May 9th through the 11th at PNC Park. Zach Anderson (2-4, 5.50 ERA), faces LA ace Walker Buehler (6-1, 2.91 ERA). It will be a 9:45 airtime on WCCS, 10:10 first pitch from Dodger Stadium tonight.
The Pirates have had a rough couple of weeks on the injury front and yesterday they made another move to shore up their infield, acquiring first baseman Yu Chang from Cleveland for cash. Chang has played all four infield positions but has hit only .208 with ten home runs and 46 RBIs over four seasons with the Guardians. He was 0-for-10 with seven strikeouts in three games this season before being placed on the covid-19 list and was designated for assignment last Thursday.
Chang arrives as the Pirates place Ben Gamel and Daniel Vogelbach on the ten-day injured list with hamstring injuries. Yoshi Tsutsugo is also on the injured list with a lumbar muscle strain and Michael Chavis has a forearm strain, but remains on the active roster.
