Nearly one month ago, district officials with the Indiana Area School District found a racially-charged threat written on a bathroom wall at the senior high school. This prompted the Pennsylvania State Police to increase their presence at the school on April 29.
Fortunately, no actions were carried out, but the district and state police are still attempting to find those responsible for writing the threat.
As of today, an investigation is still on-going and both state troopers and the district are cautiously exhausting every route possible to solve it. However, Superintendent Michael Vuckovich says that the district is going above and beyond to ensure the safety of students at each of the district’s schools because he says this is not just a racial issue.
Vuckovich adds that the district has partnered with the Department of Justice and the State Attorney General’s office to conduct the Spirit Program that gives students a safe resource to talk about these issues. Additionally, the district is conducting staff training through the PA School Board Association to help educate and build capacity, and a parent subcommittee was created to hear their concerns and to make sure “they have a voice in this matter.”
He encourages students who know anything regarding the incident to communicate what they know through the Safe2Say website using the “Submit an Anonymous Tip” option.
Vuckovich, along with members of the Pennsylvania State Police, will be on Indiana in the Morning today at 8:45 a.m.
