In a meeting at the Saltsburg River Hall yesterday, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers presented a revised master plan for the Loyalhanna Lake and the Conemaugh River Lake, which contains no new major recreation areas and upgrades to existing sites that may be limited by a lack of funding.
The Corps hopes the document, which will be finalized in June, will guide future economic development opportunities in the area of the Indiana/Westmoreland County line.
It’s been decades since the plan was updated. Loyalhanna Lake’s Master Plan was developed in 1950 and the Conemaugh River Lake in 1952. Many new Corps rules and regulations would affect any future development. Some of the existing facilities slated for upgrades include electrical and water hookups at already-existing campsite, updated boat launches, new playground equipment, additional pavilions, fish cleaning stations, out buildings, and restrooms in some of the more often-used areas, and unspecified expansion and development at Blairsville parks.
