Sentencing hearings are scheduled today for Indiana County’s Court of Common Pleas, including three hearings for a man from Apollo charged in connection with an incident one year ago today in Saltsburg.
26-year-old Austin Thomas Hopkins will be sentenced today for a charge of prohibited possession of a firearm in connection with the incident on May 27th of last year. Police at the time said that he was involved in a physical altercation with his brother when he allegedly picked up a knife and chased him into the street. The brother, who suffered a minor injury in the incident, later called police. When police were searching the area, they found Hopkins in a nearby home. He was arrested without incident. Police found a fully-loaded 12-gauge shotgun wrapped in a hooded sweatshirt at his house. Charges of harassment, simple assault and terroristic threats were not prosecuted as part of his plea deal. On the same day, police filed charges in two other incidents. Plea deals were reached in those cases as well. In one case, he pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance, and in the other, he pleaded to a charge of bringing alcohol or drugs into the prison.
Also due for a sentencing hearing today is:
- 34-year-old Nicole Whitney of Indiana, who pleaded guilty to burglary for an incident in June of 2020.
- 44-year-old Jeremy Chadwick Johnson of Homer City for charges of corruption of minors and indecent assault for an incident on June 1st of 2016. He is currently serving a sentence of up to a day less than two years for a separate case where he was found guilty of five counts of indecent assault and one count of corruption of minors from a case in February 2016.
