Gas prices are expected to continue to rise as we get closer to Memorial Day.
Triple-A reports that the national average gas price this morning is $4.59 a gallon. While no change was reported over the last 24 hours, it is a seven-cent jump from last week and a 47-cent jump over the last month. Last year at this time, the national average was at $3.03 a gallon. Over the last month, the national average has not gone down. It has either held steady or has increased since April 24th, and has set a new record high every day since May 10th. Triple-A spokespeople say that the average has gone up $1.05 since February 24th, when Russia invaded Ukraine. With the holiday weekend approaching, gas prices are expected to go up as motorists start taking vacations.
Pennsylvania’s average this morning is $4.77 a gallon. Like the national average, there’s no increase over the last 24 hours. However the average jumped 10 cents over the last week and 57 cents over the last month. Pennsylvania’s average last year at this time was $3.16 a gallon.
Indiana County’s average is now $4.69 a gallon, which is one of the lower averages in the state. Indiana is tied with Jefferson County for gas price averages in the region. Westmoreland County has the next highest average in the region at $4.70 a gallon. Armstrong County followed at $4.71 a gallon, then Cambria County at $4.73 a gallon, and Clearfield County has the highest in the region at $4.74 a gallon.
Gasbuddy.com reports that prices in Indiana, Homer City, Clymer and the downtown Blairsville Sheetz are at $4.69 a gallon. The Sheetz on Route 22 in Burrell Township is slightly lower at $4.65 a gallon.
