A total of $13,000 was awarded to various Marion Center programs and organizations through the W. A. McCreery Trust Fund before the School Board at tonight’s meeting.
Following Mr. William A. McCreery’s death in 2008, the McCreery Trust Fund was established with the help of the Marion Center Teacher’s Association with the purpose of promoting the “educational endeavors of the students of the Marion Center School District,” as per Mr. McCreery’s wishes.
Christopher Welch, who graduated from Marion Center in 1988, was contacted to handle the trust, but the guidelines are open for who is to receive what exactly:
“This fund was set up in 2010 and I’ll apologize because we’re still figuring out what we’re doing with it. He left it wide-open for the teachers to do whatever they wanted to, so long as it was for the benefit of students.”
Last night’s McCreery Fund recipients include the Rayne Elementary PTA, McCreery PTA, Marion Center Elementary, the Marion Center Theater Club, the Spanish Club, the History Buff Bikers club, Marion Center Track and Field boosters, and Marion Center football.
The McCreery Trust Fund Committee consists of Glenda Cribbs, Chris Peters, Christy Hopper, and Sandy Murphy.
