IUP recently announced that one of its students was awarded a scholarship that will help them study abroad next fall.
In an article on its website, IUP announced that Sfen Kadirifu, a junior international studies major , was awarded the 2022 Benjamin A. Gillman scholarship that will help fund her trip to South Korea next fall to study abroad. Kadirifu is IUP’s 21st Gillman scholarship recipient and will study at Yonsei University.
Recipients of the Gillman Scholarship are selected from a pool of candidates from colleges and universities across the nation and are selected based on academic performance. It is awarded through the U.S. Department of State and the Institute of International Education.
Kadirifu said in the article that studying abroad is not only required for her major, but it’s one of the reasons why she chose her major. She adds that “I wanted to do study abroad because I wanted a first-hand experience in a different culture and environment than mine and to have an opportunity to mete people that can mentor and expose me to different experiences.”
In addition to learning native experiences, she will also work to become more fluent in the Korean language.
