If you grew up watching PBS from 1968 to 2001, you probably grew attached to the show “Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood.” The show taught children and, in some cases, adults how to respect one another as well as to respect one’s self.
As avid fans of the show know, Fred Rogers, the host of the program, used the sign 1-4-3 as a way of sign language to say “I love you” since the numbers represent the amount of letters in each word.
Gov. Tom Wolf marked today as the fourth-annual “1-4-3 Day” which, coincidentally, also marks the 143rd day of the year. Wolf urges Pennsylvanians to spread kindness for doing a good deed for someone in their life, such as a neighbor, stranger in their community, or others in need.
He called 1-4-3 Day “one moment in time that we can practice the kindness and gratitude that are integral to the spirit in all Pennsylvanians.”
State residents are also encouraged to consider starting the journey to this year’s 1-4-3 Day by supporting humanitarian efforts in Ukraine through different nonprofit organizations. Pennsylvania is home to the second-most Ukrainian residents with 122,000.
