The Marion Center School Board approved a resolution tonight to eliminate two Assistant Principal positions in an effort to promote a more efficient and cost-effective educational program.
While the Assistant Principal positions are being eliminated come June 30th, the people who hold those positions are not. Mark Margolis, the High School Assistant Principal, will become the Elementary Principal at McCreery. Likewise, Assistant Elementary Principal Kelly Urbani will be assigned a classroom teaching position. Both changes will be effective July 1st.
While this resolution could save the district upwards of $60,000, Superintendent Clint Weimer explains that wasn’t the primary motivation for the change:
“I think the alignment better supports our teachers. But, of course, any time you’re making changes and so forth, there is a cost savings related to it. But, that’s not the primary reason that I did it, because I think we have a more effective institute by having a principal in each elementary school.”
Additionally, the Board approved to change May 15th from an Emergency Weather Day to a regular school day. The 2017-2018 Academic Calendar was also approved, with the first day of classes set for August 23rd.
