The Indiana Area Collaborative Team, known as I-ACT, met on Tuesday to finalize details for the upcoming “unofficial student holiday” locally known as I-U-Patty’s.
The university is hopeful that this weekend will be a quiet and safe one, even though this weekend has become known for unruly parties and excessive drinking at unofficial student parties. Over 30 activities have been planned for the next five days as alternatives, and the message is going out that the hard partying seen in prior years is not welcome. Another message sent to the IUP Community is from Ann Sesti, the director of the Alcohol, Tobacco and other Drugs program at IUP. Her email to the community encourages everyone to promote safe behaviors and not assume that everyone will drink this weekend. She said that making light of such matters makes the behavior more acceptable, and would also be offensive to those who do not plan on drinking or partying this weekend.
As IUP expects it to be quiet this weekend, they have not planned regular news conferences like they have done with IUP Homecoming in the past.
