Firefighters were back on the scene early this morning as a fire that destroyed a bed frame company rekindled.
Brush Valley, Black Lick, Coral-Graceton, Homer City, Armagh-East Wheatfield and Cherryhill Township fire departments were called back to Hillside Enterprise this morning after being on the scene for five hours yesterday. More than 20 fire departments from three counties were on the scene for the fire that destroyed the business buildings and most of the lumber stock on site. Crews had to shuttle water to the scene continuously yesterday for the fire on Brush Creek Road.
Crews were called back to the scene at 2:00 AM for a small rekindle, and crews were on the scene for just a few hours.
Brush Valley Fire Chief Ed Altemus said that the tough part of the fire was dealing with the heat, both inside and out.
Another problem was with the lumber that caught fire, as hot spots continued to be discovered in the tall stacks of lumber at the site. Crews had to use an excavator to take the piles apart and find the hot spots.
Altemus said that the fire was set off by a welding torch that was being used.
Everyone was able to get out of the building without injury.
