The Penguins and Rangers take the ice tonight at PPG Paints Arena, with the status of Sidney Crosby in question after the Pens’ captain took a vicious head shot that knocked him out of Wednesday game in New York.
Coach Mike Sullivan said yesterday that Crosby was being evaluated and for however long he may miss, the team will have to move on without him.
Sullivan says the Penguins have the weapons to win without Crosby.
The coach says the team will miss Crosby on the ice and off.
The Penguins played part of the second period and all of the third without Crosby on Wednesday. Sullivan says there were things they could have done better to create more offense.
The NHL will not discipline Rangers defenseman Jacob Trouba, who elbowed Crosby in the head after earlier taking a shot at the head of Jake Guentzel.
Tonight’s Game Six happens on the 30th anniversary of the Rangers’ Adam Graves breaking Mario Lemieux’s wrist with a two-handed slash in the 1992 playoffs. The Penguins won that series in six games and they have a chance to win the series tonight with a win at PPG Paints Arena.
With Crosby’s status in doubt, the Penguins yesterday recalled 6-foot-6, 220-pound forward Radim Zohorna from Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Zohorna scored four goals in 17 games with the Penguins this season and has scored 12 in the minors.
Tonight’s game is on 92.5 FM U92 and the U92 Sportschannel, with the pregame airing at 6 o’clock and the puck dropping just after 7.
