BASEBALL
At First Commonwealth Bank Field in Homer City yesterday, IUP swept a doubleheader from Clarion, 9-1 and 10-2.
The Hawks are still alive for a PSAC playoff berth, with three games separating five teams fighting for three playoff spots.
IUP will host Clarion for another doubleheader on Sunday.
SOFTBALL
After beating East Stroudsburg, 7-2, in their first elimination game yesterday, the IUP softball team bowed out of the PSAC tournament with a 12-0 loss to Seton Hill in second game.
GOLF
The IUP men’s golf team is six strokes off the cut after Thursday’s first round of the NCAA Division II Atlantic/East Region Championships at Ravenwood Golf Club in Victor, New York. The Crimson Hawks shot a 13-over par 301 in the opening round, 12th out of the 20-team tournament. They are 15 strokes behind leader St. Thomas Aquinas. Richie Kline shot 1-under-71 to lead IUP. He’s two strokes off the individual lead.
SOCCER
IUP women’s soccer coach Adel Heder announced his retirement yesterday after twenty seasons. Heder is the winningest coach in the program’s history, with a career record of 220-139-24. His teams won two regular season division titles, a conference tournament championship, and three NCAA tournament appearances.
