The IUP softball team was in action this morning in Quakertown for the PSAC Softball Championships, and thanks to a prolific pitching effort by Bella Bucy, the Crimson Hawks prevented elimination against East Stroudsburg.
IUP downed the Warriors, 7-2, in the win-or-go-home game thanks to stout offense by Indiana-native Haleigh Zimmerman, who padded the Crimson Hawks lead in the fifth with a three-run home run. She finished the game 2-for-4.
Joelle Snyder and Allyssa Schmidt also collected two hits each.
Bucy earned the win on the mound after a complete game effort, striking out four hitters while limiting East Stroudsburg to three hits in the process.
With the win, IUP now moves on to play in the 5:30 elimination game. They will face the loser of the 2:30 winner’s bracket game, which features third-seed Mercyhurst and either first-seed Cal U or fourth-seed Shepherd.
