BASEBALL
Indiana scored a run in the first, two in the 5th, and two more in the 7th inning in a 5-0 shutout of Burrell yesterday. Garrison Dougherty allowed just three hits and three walks and struck out five over six innings for the win. Zach Tortorella was 2-for-2 with a double and a walk. Ben Ryen and Branden Yanity each drove in two runs for Indiana, which has clinched a WPIAL playoff berth and will play Burrell again today at home, in a Renda Digital-TV webcast with Jack Benedict on the call on wdadradio.com at four o’clock.
Jonah Arone had two hits and drove in the first run as Homer-Center beat West Shamokin, 5-1. The Wildcats scored five runs on five hits in the second inning and added another run in the third. Anthony Rowland was 2-for-3 and Michael Krejocic and Mason Bell each cracked a double. Caleb Palmer threw five innings for Homer Center, giving up two runs while striking out 6 for the win. Krejocic finished up with two perfect innings, striking out two. West Shamokin was held to just two hits, including a double by Peyton Harter.
Undefeated Marion Center clubbed Cambria Heights, 16-3. Ty Ryen hit two home runs and a double for the Stingers and Landin Bennett also homered. Marion Center had 12 hits in the game. Ryen and Nick Pacconi each had three hits and Bennett had two. Dakota Bracken got the win and Braden Reichenbach also threw an inning for MC.
Northern Cambria walloped Purchase Line, 15-1.
SOFTBALL
River Valley rocked Penns Manor, 16-1. Hannah Foust threw another no-hitter for the Panthers, striking out 15, and at the plate she blasted two home runs and drove in six. Madison Stutzman was 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs and Brin Gardner, Belle Pynos, and Brooklyn Furman also had multiple hits for River Valley.
West Shamokin erupted for six runs in the top of the 7th to break open a 1-1 game and go on to defeat Homer Center, 7-1. The Wolves’ Maddie McConnell gave up just two hits and struck out six. Homer-Center’s Julia King struck out five and walked one over six-and-a-third before being charged for the 7th innings runs.
Northern Cambria beat Purchase Line, 16-6.
Kiski Area scored a run in the bottom of the first and three more in the 5th as they downed Indiana, 4-0, on a two-hitter. Zoe Brandon and Haley Hamilton each had a hit for Indiana, both singles.
LACROSSE
The Indiana girls lacrosse team knocked off Ellis Academy, 19-9 on the road on Monday. Kyla Weaver and Gianna Brody each scored six goals; Kennedi Kunkle had five, and Brynlee Schawl and Caroline Albert each scored one. Albert also had seven ground balls and 12 draw controls. Anna Buterbaugh had eight saves in goal. Indiana is 11-1 and will host Greensburg Salem on Wednesday.
TRACK & FIELD
The Indiana Junior High Track teams suffered their first losses yesterday against Norwin. The boys were outscored, 77-46. Levi Porter won the 100 meters, the high jump, the long jump and the triple jump. Mathee Sebring won the pole vault and Jack Lehman the discus.
The girls fell, 88-35. Sarah Fisher won the discus, Jayla Peterson the shot put, Addy Hutton the high jump, and Sarah Genchur the pole vault. Both teams are now 3-1.
