The first round of the NFL draft is tonight with the Steelers holding the No. 20 slot. The draft experts are all over the board on the Steelers’ needs, with some predicting a quarterback, and others an offensive tackle, a defensive lineman or a wide receiver.
In audio provided by Steelers.com, general manager Kevin Colbert, who will be leading his last draft before stepping away from the job next month, says the Steelers will always be a team that prefers to build through the draft rather than free agency.
For the second straight year, the Jacksonville Jaguars have the top overall pick. They’ll be followed by Detroit, Houston, the New York jets, and the New York Giants. Among the top names in this year’s draft class are Michigan pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson, Alabama offensive tackle Evan Neal, Liberty quarterback Malik Willis, and Oregon defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux.
Ahead of the draft, the Arizona Cardinals yesterday picked up the fifth-year option of quarterback Kyler Murray. He will make about $30 million after making two Pro Bowls in his first three seasons.
