BASEBALL
Shippensburg scored back-to-back runs on bases loaded walks in the bottom of the 9th inning to beat IUP, 7-6. The Raiders did not get a hit in the inning as IUP pitchers walked five batters. Harrison Pontoli homered for IUP and Patrick Apgar started and threw 5-and-a-third innings of one-run ball as IUP built a 4-1 lead.
IUP fell to 23-18 overall while the Raiders improved to 22-20. IUP plays Gannon in a four-game home-and-away series this weekend.
TENNIS
IUP’s Karolin Kirchtag yesterday was named the PSAC Western Division Athlete of the Week for women’s tennis. Kirchtag went a combined 5-1 during the week, including 3-0 in singles action. She broke the IUP record for singles wins in a season at 29 on Sunday at Denison. She has an .853 win percentage in singles at 29-5 this season, including an 18-3 mark in dual matches and 11-2 in tournaments.
