The Pirates quickly erased the memory of Saturday’s crushing 21-0 loss to the Cubs, with yet another come-from-behind victory on Sunday.
Here’s Joe Block.
Wil Crowe has not allowed a run in 13-and-one-third innings this season. He says the Pirates are a resilient team.
Jake Marisnick played center field for the first eight innings and was in right field for the 9th, when he made two outstanding plays, including running down a hard hit ball off the brick wall. Marisnick says Wrigley Field is a tough place to play.
Before the game, the Pirates promoted pitcher Beau Sulser from Indianapolis and designated outfielder Anthony Alford for assignment. On the Ben Cherington Show on WCCS, the Bucs’ GM said the bullpen is “beat up” right now and they are experiencing a wave of non-covid virus that has struck the clubhouse, so he needed an extra arm. Sulser is 1-2 with a 2.13 ERA at Indianapolis.
The Pirates are off today and will start a three-game series with Milwaukee at PNC Park tomorrow.
ALTOONA CURVE
A walkoff single by Altoona second baseman Andres Alvarez drove in Connor Scott with the winning run in a 5-4 Curve victory over New Hampshire. Liover Peguero and Blake Sabol each had two hits for the Curve and Tahnaj Thomas earned his first win with an inning-and-a-third of no-hit relief.
The Curve are off today and will open a six-game series tomorrow at Akron.
