March definitely came in like a lion with cold temperatures, snow and high winds last night and this morning that kept emergency crews busy over the last 12 hours.
Downed wires were reported on 4th Avenue in White Township at 10:50 PM. Indiana Fire Association was called in for that incident. Saltsburg Fire Department was called out twice early this morning to assist crews in Loyalhanna Township. The first call at 4:22 was for debris on the road, and nearly 30 minutes later, crews were called to help with a tree down. For the second call, Tunnelton Fire Department also went with Saltsburg to assist Westmoreland County Emergency crews.
In other calls:
- A vehicle fire was reported at 4:52 PM on Shields Road in Montgomery Township. Glenn Campbell Fire Department was called out along with the State Police.
- A vehicle accident was reported on Route 22 in Burrell Township. Blacklick and Blairsville Firefighters were on the scene along with State Police. This was at 9:24 PM.
- A vehicle accident was reported at 3:46 this morning on Route 286 East in Green Township. It was a crash-and-run as Commodore firefighters who responded say that they found vehicle tracks in the area, but the vehicle left the scene.
