MARTHA BASH OBITUARY
Martha “Aunt Mart” P. Bash, 97, of Indiana, PA died Friday, August 17, 2018 at St. Andrew’s Village in Indiana, PA.
The daughter of the late Roy Alonzo and Elsie (Dick) Bash, she was born on January 9,1921 in Green Twp., Indiana Co., PA. She was a graduate of the Green Township High School.
Aunt Mart served her country as a WAC during World War II. A corporal, she was awarded the European-African Middle Eastern Service Medal with one Bronze Service Star while a code clerk in Northern France.
She was a member of the Grove Chapel Lutheran Church. Over the years, Aunt Mart enjoyed playing the piano for services in various Lutheran churches in the area.
Aunt Mart was employed as an administrative assistant with Mutual of New York in New Jersey. Her next career move led her back to Indiana County where she worked at Shick Printing in Indiana, PA until her retirement.
In her leisure time, Aunt Mart could be found completing needlework projects and working on crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She liked to travel, but one of her favorite ways to spend time was to connect with her family and friends. She thoroughly loved engaging with her family and friends by taking a caring and active interest in their lives.
Aunt Mart is survived by her sister, Bernadine Fisher of Greensburg, PA; her nine nephews: Robert Bair and wife Marlene of Union City, PA; Kenneth Bash of Indiana, PA; Jack Bash and wife Virginia of DuBois, PA; Thomas Bash and wife Margie of Heilwood, PA; B. Lynn Bash of Commodore, PA; Harold Douglas and wife Phyllis of Kittanning, PA; LeRoy Gregg and wife Diane of West Virginia; Larry Gregg of Commodore, PA; and John Gregg and wife Layne of Utah; her nine nieces: Elsie Rethi of Indiana, PA; Janice Mohr and husband Bill of Georgia; Janet Cassidy of Hillsdale, PA; Virginia Bash of Indiana, PA; Elaine Berringer and husband George of Commodore, PA; Bonnie Griffith of Lucerne, PA; Christine Williams and husband Roy of Texas; Freda Bair of Georgia and Jean (Todhunter) Bash of Glen Campbell, PA and her step-niece, Patty Learn and husband Dwight of Greenville, PA She was a great aunt to numerous nieces and nephews; a great great aunt to many and a great great great aunt to several.
Aunt Mart was preceded in death by her parents; her three sisters: Florence Bair; Twila Douglas and Rowena Gregg and her three brothers: John; Wayne and Paul Bash.
Family and friends will be received from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Monday August 20, 2018 and again from 10:00 until the time of the 11:00 a.m. funeral service on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at the Rairigh Funeral Home, Ltd. in Hillsdale, PA. Interment will follow at the Cookport Methodist Cemetery.
