Shirley A. (Layton) Shaffer, age 73, of Indiana, died Friday, June 8, 2018 at Communities at Indian Haven.
She was born in 1945 in Indiana to Harold and Wilma Hinton Layton.
Shirley was a life-time member of the Aultman Volunteer Fire Co. where she was an avid Bingo player.
She also enjoyed playing crossword puzzles, and especially loved spending much of her time with grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She was employed as a housekeeper at the Indiana Regional Medical Center for 20 years.
She is survived by two daughters and one son – Lynn Phillips, Indiana; Thomas Shaffer and wife Sarah, Homer City; Kathy Simmers and husband Ron, Indiana; two grandchildren – Leanne Montague and husband Mike, Indiana; Ryan Simmers and significant other Kellee Hill, Indiana; one step-granddaughter, Brooke Housholder; three great grandchildren – Jayden, Justin, and Jordyn Montague; one sister and one brother – Judith Hendricks, Marion Center; Ed Layton, Saltsburg.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Thomas G. Shaffer in 2001, two sons-in-law – Timothy Wilson, Michael Simmers; five sisters and three brothers – Thelma Myers, Louella Cramer, Ellen Filler, Mary Shaffer, Cheryl Ringer, Ronald, Donald, and Robert Layton.
Friends will be received on Tuesday from 3 to 6 P.M. at the Bowser-Minich Funeral Home, Indiana, where a funeral service will begin at 6 P.M. with Chaplain Mona White officiating.
Private interment will be made in the Oakland Cemetery.
