Eugene J. Berfield, 72, Homer City died Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at Indiana Regional Medical Center. He was the son of the late LaRue and Ilene (Haynes) Berfield and was born May 24, 1946 in St. Mary’s, Pennsylvania.
Eugene was a member of the Homer City United Methodist Church where he was an usher and served on various committees. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge # 313, Indiana; IBEW member; a First Responder, and enjoyed traveling, especially to the mountains. Eugene loved his grand dogs, was an avid hunter and golfer, and was a member of the Meadowlands Golf Course.
Eugene worked as a controller for the Homer City Generating Station for 39 years prior to his retirement.
He is survived by his wife, Marlene A.; three children, Gene A. Berfield, Homer City; Wendy S Befriend (Thomas Yuha), Clune, PA and Chad R. Befriend (Kelly), Homer City; three step children, Staci Fritz (Ted), Murrysville, Melissa Ryan (Gary), Indiana and Robert Harvey (Ann Marie), Pittsburgh. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren, Darrin, Elizabeth and Isabella; Maityln and Brennen; Luke, Laura and Erik; Keegan, AJ and Ben; and Colin and Kelsey.One brother, Robert Berfield (Mary Rose), White Hall, Pennsylvania also survives him.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Elizabeth A. (Grimminger) Berfield.
Visitation will be Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the C. Frederick Bowser Funeral Home, Homer City where services will be held Saturday at 10 AM. Interment in the Crown Crest Cemetery, Hyde, Pennsylvania.
