The Penguins are off until Thursday night, when they will play the Boston Bruins, having lost to the Bruins in Boston on Saturday.
Coach Mike Sullivan says they need the break.
The Penguins may be without goaltender Tristan Jarry long-term, depending on the seriousness of his lower body injury, which reportedly is a broken foot suffered last Thursday against the Islanders. Casey DeSmith takes over in the net with Louis Domingue backing him up. DeSmith says he needs the work with the playoff approaching.
DeSmith says he understands exactly what Jarry is going through.
The Penguins had the day off on Sunday and will return to practice today. Center Evgeni Malkin has one more game to sit out under his four-game NHL suspension for slashing.
