Record high temperatures in our area brought many people out and about for outdoor activities yesterday, but it won’t last as winter will return to the area for the weekend.
In a winter that has turned out to be more spring-like as of late, the high temperature recorded at the PA-American Water Company Twolick Filter Plant on Friday was 78 degrees, shattering the record for the hottest temperature on Friday by nine degrees. That brought many out for outdoor activities during a time of year where the estimated average temperature is 42.3 degrees. Many took to walking or biking for recreation along Indiana County’s trails like the Hooldebug to take advantage of the warm weather.
But the one place where Warm Weather is not welcome right now is Heinz Field in Pittsburgh, where despite 70+ degree temperatures, the Pittsburgh Penguins got to hold a practice skate on the outdoor ice rink for their upcoming NHL Stadium Series game tonight.
It may be the last we see of the high temperatures for a few days, as temperatures are expected to drop over the next 24 hours. By the time the Penguins and Flyers take the ice tonight, temperatures are expected to be in the low 40’s, and temperatures are expected to drop to the 20’s for overnight. By Tuesday, temps are expected to rebound back to the 50’s.
By the way, the first official day of spring is March 20th.
