The Milwaukee Brewers are Major League Baseball’s World Series champions for the first time ever, beating Tampa Bay last night, 4-1 to win the Series three games to one. Rookie
Cooper Pratt drove in a pair of runs and tied a Series record with six straight hits going back to Game Four. Jacob Misiorowski gave up just two hits and no runs before leaving with a calf cramp in the sixth inning while William Contreras won World Series MVP.
With Milwaukee’s completion of the World Series last night, the Pirates’ Brandon Lowe, Gregory Soto, and Kirby Yates all become unrestricted free agents as of today. Lowe is, of course, the man the Bucs most want to re-sign, but he’ll command a huge salary after hitting 35 home runs with 96 RBIs in his first season in Pittsburgh. They will likely let Soto go and Yates has already announced his retirement.
The most attractive name on the free agency list this offseason will be two-time AL Cy Young Award winner Tarik Skubal. Other big-name stars on the market are pitchers Michael King, Freddy Peralta, Clay Holmes and Sonny Gray, and outfielders Randy Arozarena and Seiya Suzuki.
With baseball’s collective bargaining agreement expiring, the owners are expected to lock out players on December 1st, so they only have until then to reach contract terms under the old CBA.
